AAP councillors protest at SMC

Surat: AAP councillors and workers staged a protest at Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) headquarters on Tuesday, demanding a meeting with municipal commissioner Shalini Agarawal . Security personnel and police stopped them from reaching her office, leading to a tense standoff. Despite heavy security, protesters moved through the building, shouting slogans and carrying placards.

When denied access to the commissioner's chamber, they continued rallying through the lobbies. As police arrived and ordered them to disperse, the protesters squatted on the floor. As police forcibly removed them, a heated argument broke out between cops with some protesters' clothes torn during the scuffle.



Opposition leader Payal Sakariya claimed they had written multiple letters to the commissioner but received no response. Later, even women councillors were detained as they returned to their office..
