"In the meeting it was unanimously decided that until the next elections, that we want to be held in October-November at the earliest, and people make Arvind Kejriwal the Delhi CM with a thumping majority, Atishi would carry out the responsibilities as the new CM," AAP Minister Gopal Rai said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to resign today, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pushing for elections to be held in October-November this year, ahead of the scheduled assembly elections in February 2025. AAP Minister Gopal Rai made this announcement during a press briefing. "When he (Arvind Kejriwal) decided to resign, the legislative party meeting was held today.

In the meeting it was unanimously decided that until the next elections, that we want to be held in October-November at the earliest, and people make Arvind Kejriwal the Delhi CM with a thumping majority, Atishi would carry out the responsibilities as the new CM," Rai said. The meeting, held at Kejriwal’s residence at 11:30 am, confirmed that Atishi Marlena will serve as the acting Chief Minister of Delhi until the next election. Atishi will replace Kejriwal, who is set to submit his resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4:30 pm today.

"I will work under Arvind Kejriwal’s guidance, protect the people of Delhi...

I will work for the next few months toward the goal of bringing back Kejriwal as the Delhi chief minister," Atishi said in an address to the media. The resignation comes after Kejriwal's recent bail in the excise policy case and his statement on September 16 that he would resign within 48 hours, advocating for early polls. The party has been gathering feedback from its political affairs committee in the lead-up to this decision.
