New Delhi: Chief minister Atishi on Saturday said AAP-led Delhi govt and BJP-led central govt would together dedicate a new metro line and the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System ( RRTS ) to public on Sunday. Addressing a press conference, Atishi said Delhi currently had 250 kilometres of metro lines under construction, which was a testament to the city's dynamic growth under AAP 's governance. She added that Delhi govt already contributed Rs 7,278 crore towards metro expansion and Rs 1,260 crore for three priority corridors of the RRTS project.
"Tomorrow (Sunday) will mark a transformative day for Delhi's infrastructure, with two major metro projects and the first segment of RRTS set for inauguration," Atishi said, adding that the Delhi Metro network doubled in the last 10 years under AAP govt, from 193 km in 2014-15 to 393 km now. She added that the growth directly benefited Delhi's residents and the metro's daily ridership increased from 24 lakh in 2014-15 to over 60 lakh today. Atishi said Sunday would also mark the inauguration of the first segment of the RRTS- connecting Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi.
RRTS, a joint initiative of the govts of India, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana, is aimed at strengthening regional connectivity. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said he was "happy" to note that the projects being inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on Jan 5 were described as a "gift" for Delhiites by CM Atishi. He claimed that Delhi govt made only a minor financial contribution to RRTS.
"It was only after Supreme Court rapped Delhi govt that it agreed to release its contribution for the Delhi-Panipat and Delhi-SNB corridors from the 2023-24 financial year onwards," Sachdeva said. He alleged that the approval for the Janakpuri West to Krishna Park metro extension "for which the chief minister was claiming credit" was delayed by two years by Arvind Kejriwal-led govt. "The Rithala-Kundli Metro project currently has no involvement or contribution from Delhi govt," he claimed.
The Krishna Park Extension metro station on Magenta Line will become operational for the public from Sunday at 3 pm onwards. This is the first station to become operational under the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's Phase IV expansion. The Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section will be inaugurated by PM Modi , who will also lay the foundation stone for the construction of the 26.
5-kilometre Rithala-Narela-Kundli (Sonipat) Metro corridor of Phase IV. "DMRC will commence passenger services on the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section on Magenta Line from Sunday. Services at the new station will be available starting 3 pm on Jan 5," said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications, DMRC.
With the addition of Krishna Park Extension station, the Delhi Metro network now comprises 289 stations spanning a total length of 394.4 km. This new section is an extension of the already operational Botanical Garden–Janakpuri West on Magenta Line.
Train services between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension will be available at a frequency of 16 minutes initially. With the addition of this section, Magenta Line will now become about 40 kilometres long. "The rest of the Magenta Line extension from Krishna Park Extension till RK Ashram Marg will be completed by the year 2026 in phases," said Dayal.
