Flash flooding has caused travel chaos during rush hour on a major stretch of UK motorway. The southbound carriageway of the A1(M) in County Durham is closed between Bradbury and Aycliffe, with a diversion route is in place. It is not known how long the closure will be in place, but pictures show a giant pool of water covering most of the road after heav downpours overnight.
A post on the National Highways website reads: "The A1M in County Durham is closed southbound between J60 (Bradbury) and J59 (Aycliffe) due to flooding following a period of heavy rainfall. "National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene alongside our contractors who will be working throughout the morning to clear the water and drainage." IS A LIVE BLOG.
