Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue were called to the incident just before 9.

30pm on the A14 near Stow Cum Quy after a crash between a car and an HGV. A fire spokesperson said: “At 9.25pm on Tuesday crews from Burwell, Cambridge and Newmarket ( Suffolk ) along with a water carrier were called to a vehicle fire following a road traffic collision involving a HGV and a car on A14 near Stow Cum Quy.

“Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used hose reels to extinguish the fire before returning to their stations by 11.40pm.” As a result of the crash, one person died at the scene .

Three others, including two women and one man , were taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with serious injuries. The road remains closed between J34 and J35 while Cambridgeshire Police carry out investigation work. You can stay up to date with this incident by following our live blog.

Police are also appealing for witnesses following the crash. A police spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw the vehicles in the moments leading up to the incident. They would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time with dash cam footage.
