Mark Prynkiewicz of Lola’s Lumpia Food Truck was cleaning the walk-in cooler at Mixson Kitchen when he slipped and fell. Prynkiewicz, who owns the new commissary space with his wife Reneka and the owners of The Pita Stroller and JustFit Kitchen, was rushed to a hospital. He spent days in the intensive care unit, where he was treated for a brain bleed, fractured skull and several broken ribs.
He has no recollection of the accident, receiving CPR or riding to the hospital in an EMS vehicle . Prynkiewicz was discharged a few days later and will soon start physical therapy and seek care for his ribs, some of which were displaced, according to a March 19 update provided by Reneka Prynkiewicz. “He may never regain those memories, but having been there for the fall and aftermath it's probably his mind's way of protecting him,” she wrote on a GoFundMe page that’s raised nearly $25,000.
Mixson Kitchen is hosting a March 30 food truck rodeo in support of Mark Prynkiewicz. The crowdfunding efforts are just one of the ways Charleston’s food truck community is stepping up to aid in Prynkiewicz’s recovery. Foxbank Food Truck owner Tiffany Young led a two-day fundraiser March 19-20 with dozens of food trucks across Charleston, North Charleston, Summerville and Moncks Corner donating a portion of their sales to help Prynkiewicz with his expenses.
And on March 30, Mixson Kitchen will host a food truck festival in support of Prynkiewicz. Meals, desserts and beverages will be available for purchase from The Pita Stroller, Edisto & Co. Coffee, Southernly Sweet and more, with a portion of proceeds going to the family.
The event is being organized by Jamie Mohieldin, owner of The Pita Stroller and co-owner of Mixson Kitchen. Mohieldin, whose food truck serves Mediterranean cuisine, said the festival is taking place on the day initially earmarked for Mixson Kitchen’s celebratory grand opening. The co-working kitchen first opened its doors in December, six months after The Pita Stroller and Lola’s Lumpia were let go of their lease at the KTCHeN commissary space, which abruptly closed in June 2024.
The operators later teamed up with the owners of health-conscious JustFit Kitchen to bring their vision of a commissary kitchen to life — one where food truck chefs can cook and sell frozen lumpia, hummus, take-and-bake meals and more directly to patrons who visit 4831 Mixson Ave., suite 101, the former home of Choice's Gourmet Market & Deli. That's exactly what you'll find at Mixson Kitchen, a place Prynkiewicz hopes to return to soon.
But he has a long recovery ahead of him, Mohieldin said. “We’ve just been the best of friends from day one,” said Mohieldin, who leads The Pita Stroller with her husband Ayman Mekky Mohieldin . “They’ve just been amazing people in our lives.
” Mixson Kitchen’s food truck rodeo will take place at 4831 Mixson Ave., North Charleston, from noon-4 p.m.
