The Port Moresby North East Offseason rugby league grand final is set to take place on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Unagi Oval. After a long and exciting competition, the top teams will battle it out for the coveted championship title. A total of 64 teams participated in the competition, which began in November 2023.
Due to funding constraints, the finals playoffs were delayed, but with timely support from the NCDC Sports Desk, the competition has resumed. In the A grade division, the Wildlife Wreckers will face off against the Gordans Spartans. Meanwhile, the Mamboo Pirates will take on the Gordans Ridge in the B grade grand final.
Competition president Mr. Jack Kano has faced numerous challenges throughout the season, including resistance from team officials and the need to keep youths away from petty crimes. However, his passion and dedication have driven him to succeed.
Mr. Kano acknowledges the crucial support from the NCDC and thanks everyone involved in making the grand final possible. He also appeals to local businesses to assist with the competition and help attract more young people to participate in future seasons.
The offseason competition has proven to be a valuable outlet for youths during the festive season. Mr. Kano’s focus is now on attracting more young people aged 20 and below to participate in the next season.
