is an integral part of life in the Netherlands and soon everyone will get the chance to explore the history of the activity. A to honour decades of Dutch cycling history is to be opened in Hoogerheide by the end of next year. The idea for the Dutch cycling museum, or Nederlands Wielersport Museum, was first suggested in 1986 by Rini Wagtmans, a famous Dutch cyclist who won three stages in the 1970 Tour de France.

Some years after the suggestion was put forward, the wheels have finally been set in motion. If all goes to plan the Dutch museum for cycling history will open its doors in October of next year. The museum's location in North Brabant was chosen as it is where many big names from the , such as Wim van Est and Mathieu van der Poel, started out.

All the jerseys, trophies and other cycling relics that famous Dutch cyclists have accumulated over the years will be taken out of storage and brought into the light of the new cycling museum. A large collection of bicycles and yellow jerseys, symbols of excellence in the Tour de France, will also be displayed. There are also plans for the museum to work with The Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision to create changing exhibitions for momentous events from track cycling to cycling tours.

In a complex with the Dutch cycling museum, there will also be a cycling club, apartments, restaurants and a bicycle tour company..
