A positive night for Albion or disappointment? Audio review of draw at Villa

Audio review as Brighton draw 2-2 at Aston Villa

Albion came behind for a very rare point at Aston villa. But Fabian Hurzeler was not in the mood for celebrating afterwards. The Seagulls boss felt his side deserved more than the 2-2 draw secured by a crisply-struck Tariq Lamptey drive.

But those who have endured some torrid afternoons at the famous old West Midlands venue will perhaps be a little easier to please. Brian Owen makes that point in this post-match audio recorded near Villa Park. He looks at the action and the environment at a ground which is always a tough place to go to and get a result.

There is also reflection on how Hurzeler and Lamptey reacted to the evening. And we look at the impact made by a couple of wingers – Simon Adingra, who started and scored, and Yankuba Minteh, whose cameo off the bench was certainly exciting. And, of course, there is something to say about the VAR decisions which ultimately led to Villa scoring their first goal.

Ollie Watkins looked to be their hero as he celebrated his birthday in style with a goal and an assist to put his side 2-1 up after Adingra’s brilliant early opener. But Unai Emery’s men could not see it out and succumbed to an 82nd-minute leveller by Lamptey. The draw sees both sides on the periphery of the European places, with Albion ’s winless run continuing to seven games.

But our review suggests this was a positive evening for the Seagulls..
