Featuring Goan artist Shripad Gurav and Bengali sculptor Subrata Paul, the exhibition showcases the diverse culture of coastal India through mixed mediums. Drawing from his culture and the Indo-Portuguese architecture of his hometown Keri in Pernem, Goa, artist Shripad Gurav incorporates Indian classical structures into urban spaces.

Inspired by India’s miniature paintings, he creates lively canvases, with a focus on detailed geometric patterns. “Working is a meditative process for me. Art should give the onlooker joy.

There is no point in sharing sorrow with the world,” he says. He explains, “it is natural to work on what I see around, where I am from”.

He builds this world in his artworks through the influence of India’s temple architecture, traditional etchings, prints and paintings as well. Also intrigued by the process of building and creation, sculptor Subrata Paul describes clay modelling as an integral aspect of his journey with art from when he was a young boy. The thread connecting the two artists remains their desire to exhibit the human element of art.

Through his usage of various mediums including wood, stone, bronze and marble, Subrata creates sculptures that mirror everyday life. He says, “I like to listen to music in my studio when I work. I wanted to express the rhythm of human life through musical and dancing sculptures.
