A burst pipe leads to extensive home damage for widow. Here's how you can help.

The Good Cheer Fund supports neighbors in need through nine local charities. From Dec. 2-25, The Post and Courier will share stories of how Good Cheer donations could help individuals in the community through a variety of services.

Harriet, an East Cooper Community Outreach client since 2004, faced financial strain following her husband's death, which shifted her from a two-income household to one. She encountered additional hardship after bursting pipes damaged her home, which led to prolonged, unfortunate living conditions and a significant loss of furniture and clothing. ECCO provides crucial support by supplying cleaning items, clothing, food and financial assistance for her electric bills.

But Harriet is in genuine need of a supportive sleeping setup given her current situation with the damaged bed. A donation to the Good Cheer Fund could help ECCO provide Harriet with a full-size bed paired with a heated blanket, pajamas, a robe and socks, offering her the comfort she deserves this holiday season. Contributions to The Post and Courier’s Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927.

The nine charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are Operation Home, One80 Place, East Cooper Community Outreach, the Lowcountry Food Bank, The Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, the Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, Coastal Catholic Charities and Landmarks for Families. Every cent of the money goes directly to the agencies, as there are no administrative costs involved. There is still time to give this year.

Donations received by noon Dec. 23 will be listed in the paper on Christmas Day. Contributions received by noon Dec.

27 will be included in the final 2024 accounting on New Year’s Eve. Donations received after that date will be applied toward the 2025 Good Cheer Fund. Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 148 Williman St.
