A BBQ Restaurant and A Cafe Ordered Closed After Failing Health Inspections

The two Orange County restaurants faced closure on March 31 after inspection by the Orange County Health Care Agency.

Orange County is packed with restaurants serving a multirange of cuisines. To ensure all of them maintain health guidelines, the Orange County Health Care Agency conducts timely inspections. In one such routine inspection on March 31, a BBQ restaurant and a neighborhood cafe failed to show satisfactory results.

Soy Garlic, Golden Original, and Hot Mala are some key highlights of the BBQ Chicken restaurant.BBQ Chicken failed to make it through the inspection conducted by the Orange County Health Care Agency due to violations of its set health criteria. The issue was such that the Korean fried chicken restaurant was asked to cease operations and close BBQ Chicken for a temporary period.

Inspection Findings at BBQ ChickenInspectors of the Orange County Health Care Agency found many health violations at the Irvine-based food facility. However, the major violation that resulted in the shutdown of BBQ Chicken was the presence of live cockroaches around the chest freezer, sink, rear door, and soap dispenser.The report stated that raw chicken was kept at 50°F when the ideal temperature set by the agency was below 41°F (or above 135°F).

Employees at the Orange County-based restaurant took corrective action instantly.Going ahead, the inspectors found grime on utensils and equipment at the food facility. Pest control items were stored alongside miscellaneous supplies in the dry storage area.

There was also no air gap between the floor sink and drainpipe at the restaurant.In its inspection report, the Orange County Health Care Agency stated that dustbin lids were open at BBQ Chicken. Floors, sinks, and walls were covered in grime.

The rear door at the Irvin food facility had gaps, which offered entry to insects and vermin. Menu highlights include the Sunrise Breakfast platter, onion rings, burgers, and omelets.In a routine inspection on Monday, Springdale Cafe was found to be violating many health requirements of the Orange County Health Care Agency. This is why it was asked to stop its functioning and close for a temporary period, as suggested by the health inspectors.

Inspection Findings at Springdale CafeThe Orange County Health Care Agency identified many minor and major health violations with regard to its set parameters at Springdale Cafe. In the inspection report, the agency first expressed concerns regarding the missing Food Manager Certificate at the Orange County-based cafe.After this, the report highlighted that Springdale Cafe kept sliced cheese at 46°F when the required temperature set by the agency was below 41°F (or above 135°F).

This problem was corrected instantly after suggestions by the health inspectors.The next violation was the presence of live and dead cockroaches in different corners of Springdale Cafe. This issue, which came under major violations of the Orange County Health Care Agency, led to the closure of the cafe in Huntington Beach.

Health inspectors then found out how different items were arranged wrongly at Springdale Cafe. While eggs/chicken should have been kept separately, they were kept one over the other at the food facility. ‘Raid’ insecticide was also found in the food prep area of the Orange County cafe.

The agency also threw light on several sanitation issues at Springdale Cafe. Food and dust debris were seen in the cafe’s sink, floors, and ceiling. Wiping cloths were not kept in sanitizer solution.

Apart from these issues, the officials found many gaps in areas around the compartment sink, back door, and water heater at Springdale Cafe.Both the Orange County restaurants – BBQ Chicken and Springdale Cafe, have been given a timeframe of 15 days for corrective measures and the right to a hearing. Failure to do so would be viewed as a waiver of the hearing.
