The Philadelphia 76ers lost sharpshooter Buddy Hield for just a second-round pick this offseason. He landed with the Golden State Warriors on a two-year contract, teaming up with the greatest shooter of all-time, Stephen Curry. In just his second game in a Warriors uniform, Hield appears to be the steal of the summer.
His debut took place against the Portland Trail Blazers, where he recorded 22 points and five rebounds on 5 of 7 shooting from three-point range. Friday's performance against the Utah Jazz truly infuriated Sixers fans, as the 31-year-old tallied 24 points on 81.8% shooting in just the firth half.
"Morey: Give me Eric Gordon!" one user wrote. Philadelphia's front office signed Gordon on a minimum contract, which is much less than Hield's guaranteed $21 million over the next two seasons. Still, the Sixers had the cap space needed to re-sign him.
"76ers were always dumb for not playing him," another commented. Hield's playing time with the 76ers did not alter much from the previous destination of the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 25.
7 minutes for Indiana in 2024 compared to his 25.8 minutes per game with Philadelphia. Alternatively, the former No.
6 pick played just 14 minutes in his impressive debut coming off the bench. "Will never forgive morey for giving the warriors buddy for basically nothing," a fan shared. Although it's been just two games, a 2031 second-round pick does not appear appropriate value for allowing him to walk.
A hot start, however, does not mean Hield's entire campaign will be successful. It's important for the Philadelphia community to give him a few more weeks in Golden State before further grilling the front office. "Buddy Hield is the "two games or less" best value signing of the summer winner.
He's been unreal," analyst Keith Smith wrote. MORE 76ERS NEWS: Stephen A. Smith passionately defends 76ers superstar in fiery rant.
