75th Fulton County Interfaith Tea to be celebrated Oct. 15 in Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN — The 75th Fulton County Interfaith Tea will be held at Johnstown Reformed Church on Oct. 15.

Registration is at 11:15 a.m., followed by a program at 11:45 a.

m. and tea at 12:30 p.m.



According to the event planning committee, the celebration will benefit Haven for Hope, a farm and residence for homeless women and children. A freewill donation is accepted upon entry. The guest speaker will be someone from the organization.

“This celebration helps get to know people, how we are all human and friends,” said Rabbi Suzanne Schemerhorn of Knesseth Israel Synague in Gloversville. “We are encouraging all to attend,” she said. Free to the public, the gathering was historically women from each house of worship in Fulton County, Schemerhorn said, because women historically planned and prepared this social event.

However, it is open to all. Two Jewish women from the synogogue began the interfaith tea as a means to unite the faithfull of different faiths in friendship and mutual understanding. The Liberty Bell choir from Liberty ARC in Amsterdam will provide entertainment.

After the program, attendees will gather for a formal tea reception for conversation. Cookies will be provided by each house of worship. Schemerhorn said no seafood or pork will be served, but a platter of gluten-free sandwiches will be provided.

“It feels pretty good,” she said of the event. “It’s really lovely bringing people together who serve a higher power.” -.
