70-year-old to die in jail for raping 11-year-old

Surat: A 70-year-old man was convicted on Wednesday for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl by a special court for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act in Vapi. The convict — Asarali Khan Jainul Khan alias Lambu Chaha Bhangarwala (70) — was sentenced to imprisonment till his last breath by the court of T V Ahuja. The court also ordered fined the convict Rs 90,000 which is to be paid to the victim.

The court ordered Rs 6 lakh as compensation to be paid to the victim. The accused was convicted under Pocso Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and others. "Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and taking into account the psychological suffering of the victim, which she will endure throughout her life due to the sexual act committed by the accused, perverted members of society like the accused, who dehumanize women by attacking their bodies and dignity, should not be dealt with leniency.



Considering that the accused was about 67 years old at the time of the offence, and such an aged person is expected to protect children, the accused was keeping an evil eye on the victim, who was just 11 years old, the accused cannot be dealt with leniently," the court stated in its order while announcing the punishment. The victim lived near the grocery shop of the convict at Dungri of Valsad. She was often sent to buy daily-use products by her mother.

The accused offered her chocolate and biscuits, pulled her into the shop and raped her. After multiple such instances, the girl told her mother, who lodged a complaint at Dungra police station on May 21, 2022.
