Doctors at Prayagraj's Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital , where 36 people injured in the stampede were rushed, were already on alert mode, and started treatment immediately as ambulances started arriving around 3 am, reports Rajeev Mani. A doctor said 70% of the injured were women, aged between 50 and 70 years. Most of the patients suffered from suffocation, and were now out of danger.

Some of the injured devotees from states like Odisha and Bengal were unable to understand and respond to the queries of doctors because of the language barrier. Fortunately, some junior doctors were well-versed in Oriya and Bengali. "They quickly formed a bond with the injured patients.

And secondly, it was easier for the treating doctor to know the condition of the patient and treat them accordingly," said MLN Medical College principal, Dr Vatsala Mishra. Many patients had lost their near and dear ones and were inconsolable, while some were thankful to have survived..
