Rawalpindi - City traffic police here on Thursday claimed that its awareness campaigns had resulted in reduction in number of road accidents in the garrison city.

Rawalpindi - City traffic police here on Thursday claimed that its awareness campaigns had resulted in reduction in number of road accidents in the garrison city. As per the data shared by the traffic police for the month of March, only two fatal accidents took place in the urban areas and four in the rural areas of Rawalpindi. As many as six lives were lost during these deadly accidents.

The police said that five of accidents occurred due to over-speeding and one because of technical problem developed in the vehicle. The traffic police took legal action against the driver of the vehicle that broke down on the road. A spokesperson for the city traffic police said that the number in March was much lesser than the accidents taking place previous months.



The traffic police attributed the scaling down of the road accidents to its constant awareness workshops and training sessions, particularly for the public transport drivers. Best medical facilities to be ensured: Mustafa Kamal The traffic police statement said that over 2, 000 public service drivers had been trained about the road safety rules and traffic laws through numerous awareness workshops and sessions. The traffic police has been following the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in letter and spirit regarding raising awareness about the road safety and taking strict action against the violators.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima said that besides taking practical steps to minimize the number of fatal accidents in the city, the police had constantly been organising training and awareness sessions for the public transport drivers on how to be safe and avoid serious accidents. “We have regularly been holding the workshops for drivers of heavy transport vehicles, tractor-trolly, rickshaws, and motorbikes at Traffic Police Headquarters in Race Course,” she added. The CTO further said that they were planning to also organise awareness campaign for drivers in rural areas in the bid to further limit the occurrence of serious accidents.

Int’l Day for Mine Awareness on April 4 The traffic police also took action against the public transport drivers for overloading and overcharging during the Eid days. The traffic wardens in different cases returned Rs91,000 to passengers, who were charged extra fare by the public transporters. The wardens also issue violation tickets to 457 public transport vehicles for overcharging and overloading during the three days of Eid.
