While most Club of Mount Pleasant Rotarians feature tenures between five and 15 years, or more in some cases, Ed Wyatt is a proud Rotary member who has served the charity organization since 1969. Over his storied career in Rotary, Wyatt, 82, has held notable positions in several clubs across Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. That includes his tenure as District Gov.
in the Tar Heel state in 2009-10. In addition, the current Mount Pleasant resident saw time as District RI Convention Chair, District Youth Service Resource Coordinator and District Interact Chair. Another extraordinary feat that former District 7770 Gov.
Lou Mello noted about Wyatt is his perfect meeting attendance record over the course of 42-plus years. During his presentation at the Nov. 6 Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant meeting, Wyatt communicated Rotary's noteworthy achievements in the fight versus polio over the decades.
He recalled the ravages of the disease that caused the closure of public facilities and the maiming of children, some of whom were placed in an iron lung. Joining Wyatt during the presentation was his son, Stephen, who fondly reminisced about the trips he and his family used to make along the backwoods of North Carolina during his father's travels as a Rotary representative. "When we sit up here and we listen to him," Stephen said of the Petersburg, Virginia native, "you may not realize how much of a part Rotary has been in his life.
