- Kyrgyz athlete Chynarbek Izabekov won silver medal at the UWW Veteran’s World Championship 2024 in Croatia. The 24-year-old Kyrgyz wrestler on October 9 fought in the weight category up to 100 kg in Greco-Roman tournament. Izabekov started from the 8/1 stage, where he knocked the Mongolian athlete to the ground, and in the quarterfinals he defeated the athlete from Freece with the score of 10:0.
In the semi-final, Izabekov met with athlete from Latvia, to whom Izabekov lost in the semi-final of last year’s World Cup in Greece. The Kyrgyz man managed to take revenge and won with a score of 3:2. In the final, Izabekov’s opponent was Alexander Rumin, who was competing under a neutral flag.
The fight ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of Rumin, and the athlete from Kyrgyzstan won silver medal. This medal was the first for Kyrgyzstan at this world championship. On October 9, Taalaibek Janayev from Kyrgyzstan also participated in the tournament but he lost in the first fight and left without a medal.
