FIFTY-four teams have been confirmed for the 2025 Sports Tok 7s tournament. The three days rugby fest kicks off this weekend (April 18-20) at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby. The playoffs will be staged at the Sir John Guise stadium.

In the senior men’s division will see 28 teams competing, 10 teams in women’s division and 16 Under 20 teams. Tournament owner Benson Upas said they are very much appreciative towards having the sponsorship of Niu Power and Kumul Mineral Holdings Limited. He said there is about K100 000 up for grabs.

“The tournament continues to grow, a lot of interests and we have more than 10 teams from outside provinces taking part.” “Six teams from Lae, three teams from Kavieng so the tournament continues to grow and we continue to seek support for grassroots rugby.” “We’ve seen some players coming through and going to the national rep teams so that is what this tournament is about.

..few players going to other pathways in sports like rugby league,” said Upas.

Niu Power chief executive officer Michael Uiari said they are happy to support the tournament. “We are delighted to support the Sports Tok 7s for the fourth year running and since we have been involved, we are quite happy with how the tournament has been hosted.” “A lot of positive feedback from all the participating teams coming from other centres,” said Uiari.

“It has surely become a national event.”.
