5 Veteran Quarterback Options Who Could Start For Jets in 2025

There are plenty of veteran options New York could look to as potential solutions for next season.

Whether New York Jets fans like it or not, the team is expected to have a new quarterback starting for them when the 2025 season rolls around. The Aaron Rodgers experiment has been a spectacular failure and has cost the jobs of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas. Owner Woody Johnson is reportedly preferring to move on from Rodgers next.

That won't happen until after the season, though. And it gives the team time to find a new executive to determine who the next quarterback will be going forward. There are five main options for them moving forward.

© Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports Tyrod Taylor This is the easiest answer of any other for next season in New York. Taylor is under contract for another season and is one of the better bridge quarterbacks in the game today. While his status as a starter would only work if New York had a rookie to develop behind him, he could set the franchise up nicely if they punt their quarterback question to 2026.

Sam Darnold Darnold's playing the best football of his career with Minnesota, but he's not the future of the position for that franchise. Instead, he could use this season as a stepping board to getting a starting job with another team in 2025. Could a reunion with the Jets be in the works? If the head coach is an offensive-minded guy this is something that could certainly make sense.

Daniel Jones The entire tri-state area will cringe at this option with Jones already failing with the Giants, but if New York is looking to just have a bridge player at the quarterback spot, the former sixth-overall pick is the perfect description for that. Jones' time with the Giants has run out, and it could lead to a team like the Jets swooping in to stay mediocre for a quarterback run in 2026. 2025 Rookie QB It would be a mistake for the Jets to reach on a quarterback in this draft class, but it would be an even bigger mistake if New York drafted one, and then immediately put him on the field to start Week 1.

There are some quality arms in this class, and if the Jets improve their draft standing it may get them in line for the top ones, but as things stand right now, this is probably the least likely. But with Dallas in a free fall of their own, and a new coaching regime expected to be on the way, would anyone put it past Jerry Jones to try and get out of Prescott's contract so he can bring in Deion and Shedeur Sanders? Should that happen (which isn't out of the realm of possibility here), the Jets could get a quality starting quarterback on the open market again who is younger than Rodgers. Honorable Mention: Aaron Rodgers? As Adam Schefter explained earlier this week, while Woody Johnson may want to clear the slate free of Rodgers, a new general manager could opt to allow the four-time MVP to start the 2025 season while training a rookie behind him. It's still seen as a long shot, but don't be surprised if the new general manager at least attempts to repair parts of the relationship here.
