A development firm based in King of Prussia will conduct the initial assessment on two of the many parks in Phillipsburg projected to undergo makeovers. The town awarded two contracts to RT Environmental to perform a preliminary assessment of the scope of work anticipated at each of the sites at a regular meeting. The preliminary assessment could be completed and available for review by the public before summer, according to the project’s manager Nicholas Lippincott.
The review will include a general overview of the site, its history and an interview with a key stakeholder or project expert (with a minimum of 10 years familiarity with the project), he said. Phillipsburg’s Brainard Street Park was awarded $750,000 by the state to be transformed into an inclusive space for children and adults with disabilities. The playground near South Main Street is currently unmarked and consists of one swing set, a damaged basketball hoop and a park bench.
The funding was awarded in accordance with the state Jake’s Law in 2024. Mercer Street Park will receive a portion of the same funding through the state’s Green Acres to redevelop the community playground. New Jersey Gov.
Phil Murphy announced the state grant for park improvements in 2024. Phillipsburg is an overburdened community, the governor’s office determined. Total cost for both preliminary assessments was proposed at $3,495 each.
