Ludhiana: A local court has sentenced five snatchers to ten years of rigorous imprisonment each, for snatching a bag containing cash and mobiles from a shop owner and causing injuries to him in 2017. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each. On Oct 23, 2017, Basti Jodhewal police had filed a case against the accused.

The victim, Lal Bahadur, owns a shop at Waraich Market on Kailash Nagar Road, Ludhiana, where he sells mobile phones and accessories, and offers money transfer services. On 16 October 2017, at around 10 in the night, after closing his shop, he packed Rs 2 lakh cash and four new mobile phones into his backpack and then set out for home on his two-wheeler. While on his way to home, Lal Bahadur was overtaken by six individuals on three motorcycles, who then blocked his way and attacked him with a stick.



The assailants injured the victim’s right leg, right hand, and other parts of the body, and snatched his backpack. The accused were arrested on a tip-off.
