The same five Charleston-area high school football teams from a week earlier remained in the S.C. Prep Media's Top 10 polls in the final week of October.
The latest rankings were released Tuesday, Oct. 29, and there was some movement by the local squads. Three jumped up one spot and another dropped in its poll.
Summerville, No. 4 on Oct. 22, leads the way at No.
3 in Class 5A. The Green Wave moved to 9-0 with a 42-14 victory over visiting West Ashley Friday, Oct. 25, in a Region 8-5A game.
Summerville quarterback Jaden Cummings threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns and running back Jayven Williams tallied 72 rushing yards and two scores as the Green Wave captured the region crown. Jaiden Kelly-Murray grabbed six passes for 119 yards and a score. Oceanside Collegiate is the next highest-ranked squad, moving up from No.
7 to No. 6 in Class 3A. The Landsharks are 6-3 overall and 3-0 in Region 6-3A heading into a Nov.
1 matchup at home against No. 8 Orangeburg-Wilkinson that will decide the region championship. Philip Simmons and Cross are No.
8 in Class 2A and 1A, respectively. The Iron Horses (7-2, 4-0 region) wrapped up the Region 6-2A crown with a 21-7 win at Timberland Oct. 25.
Cross dropped a spot to No. 8 despite a 52-0 win over Baptist Hill Oct. 25, in which Trojans quarterback Tyler Harris tossed four touchdown passes.
The Trojans are aiming to lock up the Region 5-A title at Baptist Hill Nov. 1. Woodland (7-2, 3-1 Region 6-2A) remained No.
10 in Class 2A. The Wolverines and Timberland will play for second in the league Nov. 1.
The state's top-ranked teams are Dutch Fork (5A), Westside (4A), Belton-Honea Path (3A), Batesburg-Leesville (2A) and Abbeville (1A). Westside and Abbeville are unanimous atop their polls. Class 5A 1.
