We all knew the San Francisco 49ers had a talented roster the last few years. On Monday, the rest of the league put dollar amounts on how talented that roster truly was. Safety Talanoa Hufanga signed with the Denver Broncos.

Guard Aaron Banks is off to the Green Bay Packers. Charvarius Ward teamed up with the Indianapolis Colts. Tackle Jaylon Moore is headed to the Kansas City Chiefs.

And to cap off the day, the Broncos snagged a star 49ers linebacker as well. Dre Greenlaw, who had been a 49er for his entire six-year career, is joining Denver on a three-year, $35 million contract. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news of Greenlaw's deal with Denver.

The total of the aforementioned deals, plus quarterback Joshua Dobbs and running back Elijah Mitchell, who also departed San Francisco on Monday, can reach up to $285.5 million. Greenlaw, 27, became a star during his second contract with the 49ers.

He was named to the NFL Top 100 Players list in back-to-back seasons, peaking at number 76 in 2024. The highlight of Greenlaw's 49ers tenure was the 2024 postseason, when he picked off Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love twice in one game to seal a win in the Divisional round. Unfortunately, he then tore his Achilles tendon during the Super Bowl against the Chiefs.

After playing in just two games this past season post-rehab, Greenlaw will hope to hit the ground running with his longtime teammate Hufanga and a rejuvenated Broncos defense. For the 49ers, it's a strange sort of feather in the cap to lose so much talent in a day. But the question is whether San Francisco can adequately replace all this talent through the rest of free agency and the NFL Draft.
