Fans weren't happy to see where the 49ers fell on ESPN's Week 3 FPI rankings.

Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season featured quite a few upsets, and one team that fell victim to that trend was the San Francisco 49ers, who suffered a shocking 23-17 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings. The Niners, who nearly won Super Bowl LVIII, are one of the top teams in the league, while the Vikings are playing with veteran backup Sam Darnold holding down the fort as the team develops J.J.

McCarthy behind the scenes. And yet, Minnesota controlled this game from the get-go, handing San Fran their first loss of the season. And even though it was quite an unexpected defeat for the 49ers, they held the top spot in ESPN's Week 3 FPI rankings, catching quite a few fans by surprise.

There are still several unbeaten teams across the league who have looked better than San Francisco this season, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that fans were quick to cry foul over the fact that they held onto the spot in ESPN's latest FPI rankings.
