The on-field workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine began Thursday in Indianapolis and run through Sunday. However, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch has already returned to the Bay Area, departing on Friday after wrapping up the team's interviews with prospects. "We invited John to come on (the radio) today," Greg Papa said Friday on Bay Area radio station KNBR.
"We thought he'd come on, but John actually flew back to the Bay Area today. The Niners don't have a single coach here (in Indianapolis)." Lynch—like many—will watch the remainder of the workouts on television.
Since all workout data is quickly distributed to teams, staying for the full event isn't necessary. Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't even make the trip to the Combine this year and hasn't done so since 2020. Meanwhile, most media representatives covering the 49ers, including those from NBC Sports Bay Area and The Athletic, also left Indianapolis on Wednesday following Lynch's media availability.
The 49ers will now continue their evaluation process, analyzing college film and preparing for their projected 10 selections in April's NFL Draft. San Francisco holds the 11th overall pick after finishing their 2024 season with a 6-11 record. This article first appeared on 49ers Webzone and was syndicated with permission.
