Ludhiana: Four students of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) were arrested and three others were booked Sunday for getting into a scuffle during which one of them opened fire with his licensed pistol. However, no one was injured in the incident, police said. Police said the accused, all students of PAU, are good friends who got into a fight over an argument.
They said passersby informed them about the fight that was taking place near gate 2 of PAU and of gunshots being fired in the air. They rushed to the spot on receiving the information and started a probe into the matter. An FIR was lodged on the statements of ASI Gurmej Singh.
He said, "The accused students had gathered near PAU's gate 2 where during some conversation, they got into a verbal spat and heated arguments. The fight soon turned ugly with one of them, Manpreet Singh Sekhon, firing gunshots in the air. A .
32 bore pistol with a live cartridge, a bullet shell and his firearm license were seized from him. He, along with three of his friends, were immediately taken under arrest. Three other accused are yet to be caught.
" The ones under arrest have been identified as Manpreet Singh Sekhon of of Dakha's Boora Patti village, Maninder Singh from Bathinda's Burj village, Sandeep Singh from Mansa and Pardeep Singh from Ludhiana's Dadda village. Apart from them, police have also booked Harsimrat Singh and Ammu, both from Mansa, and Gurwinder Singh of Ludhiana. Charges under BNS sections 194 (2) (punishment for committing affray), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common intention) and sections 25 (9)- 54-59 of the Arms Act have been slapped on them.
