A busy three-week period of visits, conversations and tough decisions ended with Brian Tapu landing at the school he’d wanted all along. A three-star offensive line prospect from Salt Lake City (Utah) West, Tapu announced his commitment to Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting class on Thursday. Tapu is NU’s first offensive line commit and 12th overall pledge in the class.
Tapu had been trending toward the Huskers for several weeks leading up to his June 14 official visit, which was followed by a trip to Oregon State the next weekend. Tapu perhaps surprisingly committed to the Beavers immediately after his visit but then decommitted three days later as he realized no further visits were needed to find his future school. “I wanted to experience more colleges, but for sure, Nebraska’s always been on top for me,” Tapu said.
“I’m thankful for the coaches that they believe in me and want me there.” Tapu is a unique prospect — he recently finished his first season playing football after moving to the United States from New Zealand. That journey had taken him away from his parents for over a year, and Nebraska’s decision to fly them to Lincoln for Tapu’s official visit left a lasting impact.
