3rd in 30 days: Stray dog bites woman in Bengaluru's OMBR Layout

In Bengaluru's OMBR Layout, a woman was bitten by a stray dog, the third such incident this month. The BBMP intends to observe the dog for 10 days. Residents say that aggressive dogs are common in the area. Notably, a woman was fatally mauled by dogs last week in Jalahalli East.

BENGALURU: A woman sustained injuries after a stray dog bit her right leg Tuesday evening at OMBR Layout , northeast Bengaluru. OMBR Layout residents said Tuesday's incident was the third in a month in their locality. It shows her walking when the dog runs towards her from a cross road and bites her before a few passersby manage to shoo it away.

Assistant director (animal husbandry) of BBMP east zone, Mallappa Bhajantri, said they got information about the dog bite on Thursday from a resident. "The complainant hasn't provided details of the victim. We will catch the dog and keep it for 10 days of observation," he said.

Bhajantri confirmed that multiple incidents have been reported in the layout over the last two months. "Two weeks ago, a boy was injured in a dog attack . We caught the dog, kept it under observation for 10 days and learnt it did not have rabies," he said.

OMBR Layout residents said 30-40 aggressive dogs roam near the water tank area in multiple packs. "BBMP failed to ensure effective birth-control measures," a resident alleged. On Wednesday, a pack of stray dogs mauled a 76-year-old woman to death inside the IAF campus in Jalahalli East.
