Pune: The Election Commission of India's (ECI) grievance portal has received 34,026 complaints from the state in last four months since the declaration of Lok Sabha poll results . Most of these complaints pertain to electors not receiving voter ID cards by post. Others relate to names missing from voters' lists and rejected application forms, an election official told TOI.

Officials said of these, 31,500 complaints have been resolved at the district level from June 6 to September 20. With assembly elections coming up, election authorities are monitoring the complaint system closely. "We have classified the complaints and it has been found that maximum complaints pertain to physical delivery of voter ID cards.

While election cards are generated online, physical delivery is done after printing and through the post office. There were some complaints about delay in postal delivery and such complaints have figured the highest on our list," said an election official. The other complaints relate to voter slips not received during elections, and issues with IT applications.

Those related to election expenditure and political parties were raised on the grievance portal. The official said that the complaints were addressed at the district level. The state had registered 9.

5 crore voters on the electoral roll after the summary revision drive. The new registrations will continue till ten days before the last date of nomination after the elections are announced. The ECI had received 14,000 complaints from Maharashtra — the highest in the country — during Lok Sabha polls.

The highest number of complaints came from Pune district followed by Mumbai suburbs, Thane, and Hingoli. Maximum complaints were from those who did not receive voter ID cards, followed by delay in correction of voter ID cards, and applications related to new voter ID cards. Similar complaints have been raised in these four months too, said an official.

Citizen groups want an improved voter search feature on the portal to help in easier search of names. "The ECI is working on a software to help in quicker search," an official said. Many citizens from Pune and other metro cities had written to the ECI regarding missing names.

The district collector office has requested these individuals to re-register ahead of the assembly polls, confirmed officials. As the state prepares for elections, officials continue to focus on addressing voter concerns through the grievance system. While redressing grievances of voters, satisfactory answers are given to them.

It takes approximately 45 days from voter registration to receive the ID card. But e-identity cards can be obtained in 10 to 12 days. For this, voters need to register their cellphone numbers on the voter list.
