327 measles cases reported in West Texas

Up to 15 counties in West Texas are seeing cases now, according to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday.

Cases in West Texas by county: Measles cases by age range: Measles cases by vaccination status: DSHS said 40 patients have been hospitalized for the measles and there is one death in a unvaccinated school-aged child who lived in the outbreak area . The unvaccinated/unknown category includes people with no documented doses of measles vaccine more than 14 days before beginning to show symptoms.

On March 6, the Associated Press reported that an adult infected with measles died . Gaines County has one of the highest rates of vaccine exemptions in the state, according to the AP in early February .



On March 20, the Midland Health Department reported a Midland adult resident tested positive for measles . However, the Midland County case is not listed in the updated DSHS measles count. It is unclear if the Midland County case is listed under a different county's count.
