Pune: Three motorcycle-borne men molested a woman pillion rider (24) on Pune-Solapur road at Fatimanagar Chowk in Wanowrie around 8.30pm on Friday and one of them was arrested because their two-wheeler skidded while fleeing. Senior inspector Sanjay Patange of the Wanowrie police said, "Casual worker Aslam Shaikh (24) of Wanowrie was arrested.
The search is on for his two accomplices. We have seized the motorcycle." The woman works from her home in Bibvewadi.
She lodged a complaint on Saturday morning. "We arrested Shaikh after registering a formal FIR," Patange said. The woman and her friend had gone to Hadapsar on a motorcycle.
The three men followed their motorcycle when they were returning to Bibvewadi during the peak traffic hours. Patange said, "Shaikh and the other two men touched the woman inappropriately repeatedly as the traffic was moving at a slow speed." He said, "When the woman narrated the harassment to her friend, the latter asked the trio to stop and questioned them about their behaviour.
Shaikh, who was driving the motorcycle, did not stop and started speeding away," he said. "The woman's friend gave them a chase. The trio's motorcycle skidded after travelling a few metres and they fell on the road.
The woman and her friend managed to grab Shaikh with the help of some passersby. The other two fled," he said..
