Pune: The Shirur police on Saturday night detained three men on the charge of abducting, attacking and confining the son of a politician contesting the state assembly elections from the Shirur seat. The suspects allegedly clicked photos of the politician's son with a woman in a compromising position and demanded Rs 10 crore for securing his release. The incident occurred in a house at Mandavgana Pharata village in Shirur around 1.
30pm on Saturday. Superintendent of police (Pune) Pankaj Deshmukh told TOI, "The politician's son approached us with a complaint stating that he was abducted by some people for extortion. We have registered an FIR.
We will verify the content of the FIR during investigations." Additional superintendent of police (Pune division) Ramesh Chopade said politician's son told the police that some people known to him drove him on a motorbike to Mandavgana Pharata village for a meeting with workers to extend support to his father in the elections. He said the workers allegedly attacked the victim, confined him in a bungalow and called a woman to forcibly take his photos with her in a compromising position.
The workers demanded Rs10 crore for securing his release. The police said the workers released the victim after he allegedly agreed to meet their extortion demand. "He later approached the police and filed a complaint levelling serious allegations on the workers, following which we registered the FIR.
We have detained three men and are questioning them," Chopade added..
