Ludhiana: Three persons, including two children, were seriously injured in an explosion at a house in Model Town Extension on Saturday evening. The victims, Poonam, 25, the house help, her daughter Divyanshi, 10, and Babil, 5, son of the house owner, Sunny Kalra , were rushed to hospital. A police probe found that the incident took place when some crackers stored in a trunk exploded due to unknown reasons.

The intensity of the blast was such that the trunk broke into pieces. Even the windowpanes were shattered. Sunny Kalra, the house owner, was at home when the blast occurred.



Neighbours also rushed out on hearing the sound and saw smoke billowing out of the first floor of the house. They informed the police. Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) III Ramandeep Singh Bhullar said, “On receiving information, police reached the spot but the injured had already been taken to hospital.

On examining the spot, police found pieces of the trunk and glass. It was found that the family had kept some firecrackers in a trunk in a room on the first floor which exploded.” He added that the cause of the explosion was unknown as those who were around the trunk were unable to give a statement.
