JAMMU: Three men were found dead in a guesthouse in Bhaderwah town of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir on the first day of the year, with preliminary investigations by police pointing to asphyxiation due to a charcoal heater in the room. A police spokesperson said cops received a call from a person on January 1 saying his brother was not responding to his repeated phone calls. Police tracked the location of his brother’s mobile phone on Wednesday night to Royal Inn Guest House.
A police team, led by Bhaderwah SHO, reached the guesthouse and broke open the door of room no. 103. All three men staying in the room were unconscious.
A medical team called to the location declared the trio dead. The deceased were identified as Mukesh Singh, Ashutosh Singh Rana and Sunny Choudhary, all three from Jammu. Police and forensic experts minutely examined the spot in the presence of Doda SSP Sandeep Mehta and other officers.
The SSP said initial investigations did not indicate any foul play. “A charcoal heater was found inside the room, suggesting it may have caused the asphyxiation, but forensic reports are awaited and further investigations are underway,” Mehta added. The SSP has constituted a special investigation team, led by Bhaderwah’s additional SP, to ascertain the exact cause of death.
On police’s request, a medical board has also been constituted to conduct the postmortem examination of the deceased.
