Toyota and Nissan are planning to launch their flagship SUVs in India; Launch likely in 2025 The Indian automotive market is currently inclined towards the SUV segment and the car manufacturers are following the suit by launching fresh products. While the mass-market segment is flooded with new SUVs, luxury brands have occupied the higher end of the spectrum with premium SUVs. The true-blue SUVs with rugged off-road characteristics and reliability are somehow missing in the domestic market, however, we have some good news as Japanese carmakers Toyota and Nissan are planning to launch their flagship SUV models in India.

Let’s look at the 3 big SUVs currently considered for 2025 launch in the Indian market. 1. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado After a long break, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is set to make a comeback in the Indian market.

Codenamed JC250, the latest generation of the Land Cruiser Prado debuted last year and it is sold as Land Cruiser 250 in some international markets. In India, the LC Prado will sit below the Land Cruiser 300. The ladder frame SUV measures 4,920 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.

Expected to launch in India in the second half of 2025, the Prado will likely be powered by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine shared with the Fortuner and it could get the 48V mild-hybrid system. Toyota will sell the Land Cruiser Prado in the domestic market via the CBU route.

2. Nissan Patrol Nissan is contemplating the launch of the latest generation Patrol in the Indian market which recently made its global debut. Expected to go on sale sometime in the year 2026, the Y63 Patrol will be sold in India as a CBU unit.

The body-on-frame SUV is the Japanese carmaker’s flagship model globally and it is only available with a petrol powertrain. The Nissan Patrol will likely be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine putting out 425 bhp and 700 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

Once launched, the Patrol SUV will go up against the likes of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in the Indian market. 3. Ford Endeavour Toyota Fortuner will soon get a new contender as the Ford Endeavour could make a comeback in the Indian market and it will likely carry the Everest badge.

Expected to be launched sometime in the year 2025 as a full import, the Everest SUV was also spotted around Chennai and its design patent was filed earlier this year. As per the media reports, the local assembly of the Endeavour SUV is also on the cards, however, nothing concrete can be said as of now. Internationally, the Ford Everest is available with two diesel engine options i.
