Ludhiana: Three men were arrested Saturday for allegedly smuggling illegal pistols from UP and selling them to local gangs here. They have been identified by the CIA wing of Ludhiana police as Ajit Singh alias Bohemia, a resident of Mahadev Nagar in Lohara, Vaibhav Mishra from Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Nagar in Sherpur, and Jagpreet Singh alias Kaka of Gareeb Nagri in Jaspal Bangar. Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-investigation) Amandeep Singh Brar said Ajit Singh was the first to be caught near Gobindgarh railway crossing with a pistol.
During interrogation, he revealed that his accomplice, Vaibhav Mishra, also possessed an illegal weapon. Mishra was subsequently arrested with a .315 bore pistol.
Further investigation led the police to Jagpreet Singh, who reportedly purchased a pistol from the duo. Thus, the police recovered a total of three pistols and three live cartridges. Brar said Ajit Singh has three previous cases registered against him at different police stations.
He was released on bail in Jan. All three accused were presented in court, which sent them to three-day police remand. Brar said, "We are trying to trace their entire supply chain.
If more people are found involved in it, strict legal action will be taken against them," said ADCP Brar..
