MOJAVE — Five people were arrested at the Kern County Superior Court in Mojave on narcotics and other charges, Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials reported. A narcotics investigation Thursday by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Gang Suppression Unit and Detentions Investigation Unit found that known Sureno gang members Matthew Christy and Roberto Betancourt, with assistance from Nannette Landers, allegedly were attempting to smuggle a large amount of narcotics into the Lerdo Jail Facility, through the court in Mojave, officials reported. Deputies took Betancourt, Landers and Genevieve Zuniga and Zoey Seymour into custody at the Mojave court.

Christy, who was already in custody during the investigation, was also at the Mojave court that day for an unrelated case. During a search of Betancourt, deputies found approximately two ounces of fentanyl and two ounces of methamphetamine, with a prison value of approximately $50,000, officials reported. All five were arrested and booked into Kern County Jail on charges of conspiracy, participation in a criminal street gang, bringing narcotics into a jail facility and possession of narcotics for the purposes of sales.
