The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to three-peat as Super Bowl champions. However, with injuries on the offensive line, they may need to bring in reinforcements. After Wanya Morris was injured and his replacement, Kingsley Suamataia, struggled, former Chiefs tackle Donovan Smith hinted on X that he is available to sign.
Smith started 12 games for the Chiefs last year during their Super Bowl season. Before his time with the Chiefs, he was a staple of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers line and won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady. Andy Reid spoke on the possibility of a reunion with Smith.
"Listen, that’s in (Brett) Veach’s area. I mean, he looks at everything. So I’m not going to say no, but what we do as coaches, and we overemphasize, is we’re going to focus on these kids that are here," said Reid.
"They’re getting better. I know it’s hard to see at times, but there’s progress being made, and we’re going to be okay as we go forward." The Chiefs have not been shy to sign players who have seemingly been given up on and making them look good.
Just look at Kareem Hunt. Even DeAndre Hopkins looked like he was done putting up numbers before he joined Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Smith's familiarity with Reid, Mahoes and the organization could make him a solid addition.
The Chiefs need to protect Mahomes if they want to win a third consecutive year. Smith would be a low-risk, high-reward type signing. More NFL: Packers Xavier McKinney blasts Bears star ahead of Week 11 matchup.
