2nd Filipino fatality from Myanmar earthquake identified

THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Thursday, April 10, 2025, that the remains of a second Filipino victim from the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar have been identified. The Philippine Embassy in Yangon informed the DFA about the identification, the department said. The DFA has extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and has informed them of the confirmation.

"They have requested media to respect their privacy in this very difficult time. In light of the tragedy, the family has requested that the media respect their privacy during this difficult time. As such, the Department has refrained from releasing additional details out of respect for their wishes," the DFA said.



While the identification of this second casualty brings further grief, the DFA continues to search for the remaining two Filipino nationals who are still unaccounted for in Mandalay, Myanmar. "We continue to hope for the best for the remaining two Filipinos still unaccounted for in Mandalay, Myanmar," the DFA said. On Wednesday, the DFA confirmed the death of Francis Aragon, who was the first Filipino fatality in the earthquake.

The death toll from the earthquake reached 3,649 as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, Myanmar's State Administration Council said.

A total of 5,018 people were also injured and 145 remained missing. (JGS/SunStar Philippines).
