HYDERABAD: A depressed youth committed suicide after loan app agents morphed his wife's picture and circulated to his friends and family. The dead is Narendra (25), living in Visakhapatnam. Narendra got married on October 28.
He married his long-time friend Akhila. Narendra is a fisherman. Due to the change in weather, Narendra was not able to venture into the sea for fishing for several days.
Due to this, his financial situation deteriorated. He then took a loan of Rs 2000 from an online app. Within weeks, the loan app agents started mentally harassing Narendra on loan repayment.
In the meanwhile, loan agents morphed Akhila's pictures, registered the price on them and sent them to people in Narendra's contact list. Narendra came to know about it when the pictures reached Akhila's phone. Later, even though Narendra repaid the loan amount, the agents continued to harass him.
Some people started calling Narendra asking about Akhila's picture. The youth, who was upset over it, ended his life. This is the third incident happening in Andhra Pradesh in the past one week.
In Nandyal district, a woman tried to commit suicide after being harassed by loan agents. The woman was saved by the police. In Guntur district, a man committed suicide after being harassed in a similar manner.
