Ludhiana: While other political parties do not seem to have started preparation for the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) elections, Congress functionaries appear to be very enthusiastic. The District Congress Committee (DCC), which had called for the filing of nominations papers till Nov 20, received as many as 250 nomination forms for 95 wards till Monday, which means on an average, three candidates have filed nomination for each ward. In this scenario, the Congress may also face a challenge of choosing 95 candidates from over 250 persons — internal tussle looms large.

DCC president (urban) Sanjay Talwar said, “We are all prepared for the elections. However, the govt was deliberately delaying it. Now when the court has directed the state govt to hold the elections, the ruling party as well as other parties, such as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have not even started off.

The Congress had already called for the nomination forms.” The party functionaries were asked to submit their nominations by Nov 20, Talwar said, adding, “Till today, we have received 250 nomination forms and more are expected to be received by Nov 20. Moreover, we have started conducting ward-level meetings.

” The DCC chief also said the ruling govt would hold elections with new ward delimitation . Talwar said, “The govt has deliberately changed the wards to gain favours. If in a certain ward Congress’s female candidates were strong, they made it a reserved ward.

In some cases, where male candidates of the Congress were strong, those wards have been transferred into female wards. However, despite conspiracy, the Aam Aadmi Party would not get favourable results as the people have lost trust in them.” We also published the following articles recently Parties on tenterhooks about ward delimitation ahead of MC elections As Municipal Corporation elections loom in Ludhiana, political parties are strategizing amidst uncertainty surrounding ward delimitation.
