Prayagraj: The mela police have set up 102 parking slots , including 24 satellite ones, to manage the vehicular crowd effectively and ensure passenger convenience during the mega event. These satellite parking slots will offer facilities like cloakrooms, Rain Basera, crane, first aid, police assistance booths and shops for essential commodities. The state govt has constituted a 24-member traffic advisory committee under the chairmanship of additional DG (Prayagraj zone) Bhanu Bhaskar to draft a plan for traffic control and management for the Kumbh.
"While drafting an elaborate traffic plan, the mela authorities have focused on the fact that devotees will be coming from far-flung areas, and they should not have to walk too much to reach the ghats. Most parking slots have been set up within a 5Km radius of the Sangam area ," Bhaskar said. He added that all 102 parking slots would cover an area of around 1,900 hectares and be able to accommodate over 5 lakh vehicles.
Of the 102 parking slots, 24 have been developed as satellite parking slots while the rest would be ordinary parking slots. A total of 60 cranes would also be deployed at these parking slots, depending on the size of the parking slots, to clear routes or to lift small or heavy vehicles in case of any emergency. "As millions of pilgrims would be visiting the tent city to take a holy dip on main snan days, the mela police have drafted an elaborate layout plan for parking vehicles for both normal and main snan days.
The mela administration has drafted a separate traffic plan for Parade, Jhunsi, and Arail as the entire mela campus has been divided into 25 sectors," he said. The mela police will install 1700 signages for the benefit of visitors, and over 500 shuttle buses will be deployed during Maha Kumbh. Mela police have also set up 195 watch-cum-guidance towers on the mela campus.
