From Uchenna Inya , Abakaliki Chieftain of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Chief Boniface Igwe, at the weekend boasted that the party would wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election. He said the party was committed to strengthening of the rule of law and democracy in Nigeria. Igwe, who spoke at a press briefing, stressed that PDP was founded on the principles of rule of law and maintained that the party would come out stronger and more formidable from its present leadership crisis.

He commended the recent Southeast stakeholders meeting with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) held at the national secretariat where the crisis rocking the party in Ebonyi was permanently resolved. “The Southeast stakeholders and PDP NWC meeting held on January 8 at the Wadata House has put an end to the crisis rocking the party in Ebonyi State. “I have to commend leaders and elders of our party for standing by the truth and remaining committed to the ideals of the founding fathers of our great party,” Igwe said.

He said that the ratification of the Federal High Court’s judgement that nullified the ward, local government and state congresses of the party in Ebonyi State was a clear indication of the party’s strong belief in the rule of law and party internal democracy. The party chieftain also applauded the replacement of Chief Ali Odefa, the sacked Southeast National Vice Chairman of PDP with Chief Chidiebere Egwu, Zonal Youth Leader of the party. Igwe who echoed the feelings of other stakeholders of the party in Ebonyi State said that the two landmark decisions had brought to an end the leadership standoff that had plagued the party after the 2023 general election.

He called on party supporters, faithful and democracy-loving people of Ebonyi to remain steadfast and unwavering in their support for PDP stressing that the party has repositioned to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) in the next general election. Igwe paid tribute to Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii, the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2023 general election in Ebonyi State for his commitment to deepening democratic governance in the state. “I want to commend the leader of our great party, Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii for his role in ensuring that the crisis in the party in Ebonyi was peacefully resolved as well as his contribution in promoting democracy and democratic principles in Ebonyi and Southeast zone,” he added.
