2025 Leapmotor C10: Jeep parent's Chinese electric SUV detailed

Another Chinese SUV is gunning for the Tesla Model Y, with the Leapmotor C10 coming here in November, backed by Jeep and Fiat parent company Stellantis.

It's one of a glut of Chinese mid-sized electric SUVs coming to our market, with the , , and among the others that will take on the dominant . While Leapmotor has yet to announce its retail locations for Australia, it boasts it will be able to tap Stellantis' sales and service network. Leapmotor International is a joint venture between Stellantis – the owner of Jeep and Peugeot, which has a 51 per cent stake – and Chinese firm Leapmotor, which has the remaining 49 per cent.



The company says two vehicles will headline its rapid global expansion: the T03 city car, and the C10. Only the latter has been confirmed for Australia. Leapmotor International says they'll be followed by at least one new model annually over the next three years.

It earlier this year showing it plans a small SUV for 2025, a small hatchback for 2026, and a light hatchback and SUV for 2027. The C10 features a single, rear-mounted electric motor with 160kW of power. It's rear-wheel drive.

The C10 features a 69.9kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and offers a claimed WLTP range of 420km. Leapmotor claims it takes approximately 30 minutes to charge from 30 to 80 per cent using DC power.

The C10 is dimensionally very similar to the Tesla Model Y. While Leapmotor boasts on its various websites and social media pages that the C10 has a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, the safety authority has yet to publish its result. All C10s will come standard with a claimed 17 advanced driver assist functions, powered by 12 sensors.

While it hasn't provided a full list for Australia, in China it's offered with equipment like autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane centring, lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert. It has confirmed all Australian-market C10s will feature seven airbags and a surround-view camera. There are two C10 variants confirmed for Australia.
