There's good news for those who want the performance capabilities of electric power but without the perceived numbness of the single-gear driving experience, with the EV6 GT featuring simulated gear shifts like its Hyundai cousin. Marketed as 'Virtual Gear Shift', it not only pretends to be a dual-clutch automatic and offers drivers control via the steering wheel-mounted paddles, but also includes synthesised engine sounds which are piped through the internal speakers. As with the wider updated EV6 lineup, revealed in South Korea earlier this year, the GT will trade its 77.
4kWh lithium-ion battery for a larger 84kWh unit. Kia is yet to confirm WLTP driving range for the updated EV6 GT, though on the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy cycle it has 355km of range. For reference, the outgoing model achieves 424km on the WLTP cycle.
Kia in Korea has also confirmed the EV6 GT's heated and ventilated front sports seats will gain eight-way power adjustment and driver's memory. The only interior colourway remains Black and Neon. These bright green accents continue to match the colour of the brake calipers.
The GT has a fresh look externally thanks to not only a restyled front-end like other EV6 models but also new model-specific 21-inch alloy wheels. Changes under the skin to the rest of the EV6 range, revealed in May, include retuned frequency-sensitive shock absorbers, more sound deadening in the rear, and a thicker B-pillar for additional rigidity. The EV6 received a significant facelift, with angular new daytime running lights, variant-specific front bumper and grille treatments and a new rear bumper.
Kia also upgraded the EV6 with its new ccNC infotainment system, which features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and supports over-the-air software updates. There's a new steering wheel, a fingerprint authentication system, ambient lighting with new "dynamic" graphics, and a revised wireless charging pad designed to better hold your phone in place.
