The incident occurred shortly after a prayer session to commence the proceedings. Some lawmakers began singing the anthem, sparking resistance and uproar from others in the chamber.

The disruption halted the song, and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, promptly moved forward with the budget presentation process, delivering his speech.
