Basking in surround sound immersion in the comfort of one’s home is a welcome alternative on cosy days, but audio only makes up part of the experience, as the other half boils down to picture quality and details, where vibrant colours mix with fluid motion, strong contrast, and deep blacks. For those seeking the complete experience, the optimal solution typically involves pairing a TV with an external sound system, such as subwoofers, speakers, and soundbars.

LG Electronics’ AI TV series for 2024 reduces the hassle by offering a two-in-one package, allowing for more convenient and accessible enjoyment through its OLED evo AI G4 and M4 models. Barring a few slight differences, these advanced television sets are almost identical in looks and functionality. The LG G4, for instance, has more size options (55”, 65”, 77”, 83”, 97”) and an additional HDMI 2.

1 port, while the M4 (65”, 77”, 83”, 97”) comes decked out in a wireless design*. At the core of both models, however, is the all-new Alpha 11 AI Processor , which touts 30 per cent faster processing and 6.7 times quicker artificial intelligence (AI) performance than its predecessors (comparison is based on a conventional TV with Alpha 5 AI Processor).

Kicking things off is AI Brightness Control, which automatically adjusts screen brightness to match ambient light for perfect clarity at any time of the day, followed by AI Super Upscaling, where every pixel is enhanced in real-time. The Neural Processing Unit (NPU) – specialised hardware designed for executing machine learning algorithms – also reports a 400 per cent improvement in performance, delivering enhanced visuals dipped in sharp detail, crisp quality, and lifelike colours.

Alongside the OLED display on the G4 and M4, the combined hardware will work its magic, bringing a 4K Ultra HD resolution (3,840 x 2,160) and a 144Hz refresh rate on the 55**, 65, 77, and 83-inch models to ensure cinematic precision, as well as compatibility with PC-connected content – so long as games and PC inputs are able to support 144Hz. Meanwhile, AI Director Processing analyses on-screen colour distribution to allow users to watch their favourite content as the filmmaker or director intended, with AI Picture Wizard employing deep learning to create images featuring various combinations of colour, contrast, sharpness, and brightness that are tailored to each individual’s unique taste. Finally, Brightness Booster Max ramps up brightness levels by up to 150 per cent on both the LG M4 and G4 (55**/65/77/83-inch) covering three percent of the display and differing by series and size.

Likewise, soundscapes promise plenty of detail to take delight in, with performance speakers to match the visual fidelity. AI Sound Pro, for starters, produces richer and fuller audio, while AI Voice Remastering enhances dialogue clarity by separating vocals from the soundtrack. A handy skill, AI Acoustic Tuning can bring out previously unnoticed sounds by detecting a room layout and customising the TV’s audio – an effect that can be amplified through WOW Orchestra.

Simply pair the device with a compatible LG soundbar, and say hello to a unified, three-dimensional soundscape. This rich blend of visual and audio capabilities makes the company’s AI TVs a jack of all trades. In addition to watching content, the LG M4 and G4 come highly recommended for gaming, as the industry-leading 144Hz refresh rate (144Hz Mode is supported on 55**/65/77/83- inch OLED evo M4/G4 models, and is compatible with PC-connected content that can support 144Hz) delivers smooth, responsive play and lag-free action.

Coupled with the combined prowess of G-Sync compatibility, AMD FreeSync Premium, and built-in VRR (short for ‘variable refresh rate’, ranging from 40Hz to 144Hz, and is a certified specification of HDMI 2.1), these TVs are more than well-equipped to eliminate tears and stutter – whether it’s racing through the streets, or fighting a horde of enemies. If there’s a need to fine-tune gaming-related settings, players can do so in real time via the Game Optimiser and take a glance at the numbers with Game Dashboard.

Instant cloud gaming is also possible with the Game Quick Card, allowing players to dive straight into a recently played title from one of the cloud gaming platforms available on LG’s webOS operating system. The webOS, on that note, has been updated, too. As part of LG’s Affectionate Intelligence belief that revolves around the idea of more caring, empathetic and attentive AI, it now offers customisable AI-powered features, including personalised profiles and AI Chatbot troubleshooting.

Regular updates and enhancements are due to roll out over the next five years, up to 2028, with the webOS Re: New Program promising four upgrades within the window and allowing users to enjoy the latest features, applications, and services. Powered by the Alpha 11 AI Processor, the 2024 LG OLED evo AI G4 and M4 TVs are ready to rule the world of OLED entertainment – and in more ways than one. Snappy performance and audio-visual immersion are available in spades, and the Korean giant’s own touches give an edge in personalisation, successfully pulling triple duty as an all-in-one home, a gaming experience, and the central hub of the AI home.

Prices for the LG G4 start from S$4,199 (55-inch), topping out at S$34,999 (97-inch). Meanwhile, the M4 retails for S$6,099 and S$39,999 at 65 and 97 inches respectively. A special promotion is currently being held till 31 January 2025, where customers can enjoy up to S$200 free grocery e-voucher with a bundle purchase of selected LG TVs and soundbars.
