Hastings Borough Council is consulting on plans to install 20 CCTV cameras in Bottle Alley to improve safety and deter graffiti. The consultation is open until 5pm on May 1

Hastings Borough Council is considering installing 20 CCTV cameras in Bottle Alley. The council wants to improve safety and deter graffiti in the area. The cameras would cover the entrances and exits of Bottle Alley and provide high-quality images day and night.

Only authorised staff from Sussex Police and Hastings Borough Council would have access to the footage. The initiative is part of the council's new corporate plan, which prioritises making Hastings a safe and proud town for residents and visitors. The funding for the cameras would come from the government's Safer Streets Fund, which is allocated for graffiti prevention and improving the safety of public spaces.

Councillor Glenn Haffenden, lead councillor for housing and community safety, said: "We know that Bottle Alley is an area that people are keen for us to have CCTV coverage on for a range of reasons. "This consultation is part of the process to install CCTV cameras – we want to hear from residents, visitors, businesses and organisations about the plans. "We believe that the cameras will help people feel safer when they are using Bottle Alley, which is a really unique part of Hastings.

" The council is inviting feedback from residents, visitors, businesses, and organisations on the proposed plans. More information, including a map of the proposed camera locations, is available on the consultation pages of the council's website. The consultation will close at 5pm on Thursday, May 1.
